Thoughts: I always wanted to do this version of Sakura but I never got the chance. I always enjoyed the OVA because it’s a bit darker, there’s more drastic plot changes and it introduces my favorite character, Subaru (Tokyo Babylon) into the universe.

I’ve wanted to do Rain for years. G Gundam was the only gundam series I ever liked and thats because it was just so dumb.

holland gundam which is just a giant windmill
The belt was made in the same style I made Lady’s belt but without the craft foam. It was a bit harder and messier than Lady’s belt but I was trying a new method that didn’t pan out. I made the cape ungodly huge because I wanted it to be exaggerated. It’s made out of a utility fabric which makes wildly heavy but were it to really be in the series, it could double as a blanket for cold desert nights. My plans were to ultimately rip the whole costume so that it would look like I’d just returned from a trip but I ran out of time.

I would like to come back to this costume one day. If I do, I would make the cape out of a lighter fabric so it could catch the wind, re-do the belt and commission or get a nicer wig.

Trials for this costume were horrendous. I was honestly unsure of how to go about this since I was inexperienced with something so technical. At first, I ordered a generic bunny suit that I thought I could use as my base. The only thing I kept from that order was the tail, cuffs and ears. The suit idea itself was tossed out once I realized the fabric held no shape and I would need more fabric to even do my plan.

I then tried the duct tape method which produced okay results but I had again used a weak fabric so once the boning was in, it was just a mess. I ripped it up and tried a few more times before throwing that method out.

Then I picked up another tutorial but this time I was stuck on the breast cups. I would always make them too big or too small so it was driving me crazy. Eventually I settled on whatever was done and ended up wearing it to PCC (?????). I liked it but I also didn’t realize what a mess it was.

This time I was learning to be patient and mocking an entire cosplay versus just doing it in pieces.

With the jacket, I lined it with a light blue fabric, made a fake pocket for the front then worked on the jackets cuffs. This was one of the reasons the old jacket failed. The cuffs were awful and held no shape. This time, I used two pieces of interfacing for both cuffs and used an invisible stitch to attach the lower part of the jacket to the upper part of the cuff. Because of the invisible stitch, the cuff looks like it floats on its own and holds it’s shape perfectly!

I was again strapped for time. During the construction of Rain, I had moved apartments, gotten a new job and suddenly it was time for PCC. The only other thing left to do was make the collar and the pouch. I made the pouch using faux white leather and again alternated it so that the only thing it could honestly hold was my phone and business cards. I used a magnet to keep the pouch snapped closed at all times. Finally, I sloppily did the neck piece by creating it out of worbla. I have plans to re-do the piece since it’s pretty awful but overall, I’m incredibly happy with my remake of Rain!
